NAMCP, a non-profit membership association, was established in 1991 to provide tools, education, and resources to medical directors, practicing physicians, and other healthcare professionals. The membership consists of medical directors and physicians from purchaser, plan, and provider healthcare delivery systems. NAMCP is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide AMA PRA Category I creditsTM to physicians.
NAMCP has four Institutes. Each Institute is managed by a volunteer board of directors comprised of medical directors from purchasers, plans, and provider systems.
The Health Management Institute promotes preventive management and assessments of health, develops tools for patients and physicians that will be used to monitor and manage chronic disease, and proactively promotes patients becoming engaged participants in their personal care using their physicians as consultants or coaches. The Health Management Institute consists of two centers:
Center for Preventive Health Maintenance
¨ Provides a resource for standardization of preventive health guidelines
¨ Provides resources and tools for medical directors and physicians to provide preventive services
¨ Promotes changes in lifestyle to prevent chronic diseases
Center for Continuity of Care (Chronic Illness)
¨ Establishes medical director resource centers on specific diseases which are to be used to stay updated on specific diseases and help network physicians and patients to improve health outcomes in chronic illness
¨ Provides tools for physicians and patients to efficiently monitor and manage chronic disease and improve patient health outcomes
The Oncology Institute was developed to look at issues around cancer such as health economics, benefits, survivorship, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacogenomics, prevention, and other issues.
The mission of the Genomics Biotech and Emerging Medical Technologies Institute is to be a recognized leader in bringing information to the forefront that positively impacts patient outcomes by enhancing the competency of all affected stakeholders and broadening awareness of new technologies.
NAMCP keeps in contact with over 10,000 medical directors through our peer reviewed Journal of Managed Care Medicine and our weekly electronic newsletters: Managed Care e-News, Prevention, Wellness and Lifestyle e-News and the Genomics Biotech and Emerging Medical Technologies e-News.
